Why is the sky blue?

The sky is blue because of "Rayleigh Scattering", due to the way God made the universe. Incoming sunlight is scatted by the molecules of air, dust, water, and other things in the atmosphere. This happens better for short wavelengths of light (more bluish colored light), and is less effective for longer wavelengths (more reddish colors). So the longer waves (reds, yellows, greens etc) are scattered less that the shorter waves (blues), and goes straight through the atmosphere, with its direction being basically unchanged. The shorter waves are scattered at large angles with respect to their original path, and since that happens all over the sky, we see the sly as having a blue color.

If God would have made the laws of nature a little different, or given us a different atmosphere on Earth, then we would probably see the sky as a different color (on Mars, the sky is reddish-pink). Or not at all!
